Gar Coleman & Shannon Price: Till Death Do Us Part

As most people know by now, Diff'rent Strokes actor, Gary Coleman passed away on May 28, 2010. He supposedly suffered a fall in his home that led to him being admitted to a Utah hospital, where he later went into a coma and was placed on life support. Hours after finding out that he was on life support, we were told that his wife, Shannon Price elected to have the life support shut off and that he had passed away.

I have sat back and watched the story of Gary Coleman's death unfold. And I gave Shannon Price the benefit of the doubt. I try not to judge people because most of the time we only have a small part of the actual facts, and I am a strong believer in the fact that "there are 2 sides to every story". But as this story progresses, I will admit that I truly believe that Shannon Price played a major role in his death. Obviously, with her decision to stop life support, that is considered a major role, but that is not what I mean.

First we get the release of the Gary Coleman 911 call where Shannon Price is grossed out by the blood and too sick to do anything to help her "supposed" husband. Now we have pictures of Shannon Price posing next to her dying husband as he lays in a hospital bed on life support, which she knew would be removed soon.(again at this point we all still believed she was his wife) She planned this photo shoot so that she had some photos that she could sale and make money on after he was dead. Seriously, whoe even thinks of that kind of stuff when they are dealing with the thought of a loved one possibly dying?

I don't like blood either and will admit that a lot of blood grosses me out. But I had someone that I cared about who sliced their wrist in front of me and at that point I can honestly say that I did not give a crap about the blood. I was more focused on doing what I needed to do in order to stop the bleeding and get help there quick.

Her actions from the beginning have been suspect and at this point my opinion is swaying towards thinking that the "so-called fall" may not have been an accident. She knew in the hospital that she had no authority over making any decisions in regard to Gary Coleman's medical condition, yet she kept the fact that they were divorced a secret and led the hospital staff to believe that she was indeed his wife. Why did she need to make the medical decisions so quickly? Because she knew if the fact that they were divorced got out that she would not be able to take him off of life support!

I enjoyed watching Gary Coleman when I was young, and even though he had many problems as an adult, he is still a human being that does not deserve this type of treatment. I truly hope that law enforcement take a long hard look at his death and that at some point Gary Coleman can truly be allowed to rest in peace.

Ed Hardy Shoes and Accessories

I was looking through the Ed Hardy website and totally fell in love with their shoes and some of the other accessories. I'm not a huge fashion diva, but their shoes rock. The bright colors and designs of their shoes are really eye catching. Some of the shoes kind of remind me of the Converse high tops that I wore in the 80s. Not the same style of course, but the bright pinks and blues in the shoes took me for a short walk down memory lane. And yes I am guilty of wearing the converse that were pink on one side and blue on the other.

I also like the hand bags that I saw. I have been known to carry the same bag for a year or two, so I have to find one that I really like and one that will last. I have no way of knowing if the bags can last for as long as I would carry them, but I really did like the designs. I prefer smaller bags, because I don't carry a lot of things around with me. I'm thinking about trying one though, because they have some on sale right now that I like. And since this will be a trial run to see how long they can hold up, the fact that they are on sale makes them even more attractive. I think we all hate to spend a bunch of money on something that we have never tried before.

Living in a small town limits our shopping experiences. The internet has opened up a whole new world of shopping for me and I think I like it. It's great to be able to go online and find something that I like (especially if it's on sale) and buy it without ever leaving the house. No more spending hours looking around and then standing in line to try it on and pay for it. Technology is great!

If you are planning a trip to Miami and want to have an itinerary with all the details planned out, you can check online to find the restaurants that best fit into your tastes and lifestyle.

You can also check out websites that have reviews of the restaurants that you are considering. So it is a great idea to do a little research before you make the decisions on where you want to eat.

The location of the restaurants may be an issue for you as well. If you don't want to go all the way across town to eat, you can look for Miami restaurants that are located close to your hotel. It is also smart to call ahead and see if there is a wait time to get a table. This will give you a chance to accommodate for the wait, or change your plans if necessary.

If you want a specific cuisine, you can search for specific restaurants that offer it. For example, if you want Italian cuisine you would search for: Miami Italian Restaurants. Saving Money on a Miami Vacation

Taking a vacation is usually an expensive event. You can cut down the price by looking for cheap hotels and finding attractions that are offering specials or discounted promotional deals. A lot of time you can get a vacation package that will include airfare, hotel, attractions, and sometimes even meals. These packages are a great way to save money if they include things you would be doing on your vacation anyway.

Check with the local hotels to see what kinds of different packages they have. Or get in touch with a travel agent that can send you information and brochures from different hotels in the area. Going through the week is also a good way to save some money. Many hotels have higher rates on the weekends because these are their busier times. Be sure to ask about the varying rates that each hotel offers before you decide what will save you the most money.

Most of us eat out most of the time when we are on vacation. This is fine, but can be expensive if you eat every meal out. Get a hotel room that has a refrigerator. You can use it to keep drinks and sandwich meat in it. After spending the day at the beach or at the hotel pool, you can grab a quick sandwich instead of spending the money to eat out. If you do this for one meal a day, it can save you a lot of money depending on the size of your family.

Set a budget of an acceptable amount of money that you can afford to spend on your vacation. As you are planning the trip, keep up with the costs  and what you have left in the budget. Keeping up with the costs as you are planning the trip can help you stay within your budget.

You can have a fun adventurous vacation without emptying out your bank account. It just takes a little extra time and effort as you create the vacation plan.

10 Diaper Changing Tips for Men

For years women were always the caretakers when it came to the kids. Times have changed and men are sharing more of the responsibility of parenting. Sadly, many men still have problems when it comes time to change a diaper. They need a little extra training in this area of parenting.

So here are a few tips to help all you guys out there on your next diaper changing adventure.

1.  Get all the supplies you will need together before you begin to change the diaper.

2.  Be prepared for a mid-change accident, especially if the baby is a boy. Keep the little rascal covered just in case. Cause when he has to go, there is no holding back, he's just going to go!

3.  If you are diapering a newborn, don't forget to take the steps needed to care for the umbilical cord stump.

4.  Changing a toddler's diaper can be difficult sometimes. They often don't want to be still long enough to get their diaper changed. Choose an area that is as distraction free as possible. If you are changing them on a couch or bed, you need to keep a hand on them at all times to prevent them from falling.

5.  Make sure you put the diaper on the right way. Having the diaper on backwards won't give as much protection for the little one.

6.  Be gentle.Twisting a baby into a pretzel just to change their diaper is not a good thing.

7 .Don't forget to remove the toilet paper from your nose and trash it after the diaper is changed.

8.  Running away when you see what is in the diaper is not an option.

9.  Spraying the baby's butt off with the kitchen sink sprayer is not a shortcut.

10. A Hazmat suit is not proper diaper changing attire.

Grandma's Cooking Brings Families Together

My Grandma passed away almost twenty years ago, but I can still remember her being in the kitchen cooking. She didn't just cook once or twice a week, she cooked almost everyday. Her meals were homemade, not the stuff that you get out of a can or from a box. Most of the vegetables she cooked came from a jar that she had canned herself. I can still smell the beans cooking and taste the salmon patties that she always made to go with them.

Today we opt for the easy way out when it comes to preparing meals. And yes, I admit I am guilty of this too. Why cook homemade lasagna when I can get a pan of it already put together, and then all I have to do is throw it in the microwave or the oven. Its simple and it is way quicker than doing it myself. The sad part about this is that most of us are depriving our kids of the experiences that we had as children. When was the last time you went to Grandma's house and everyone sat down and ate a home cooked meal at the same time? This was a common occurrence in my childhood, and something that my kids have only experienced a handful of times usually on a holiday.

We live our lives in the fast lane, and try to do everything as quickly as we can using any short cut that is available. That is all well and good most of the time, but we need to be thinking of the family time and the memories that we could make for our family just by having a meal together once a month. I don't want my kids growing up and looking back on their childhood without remembering some quality family time that we shared.

So this weekend, I am going to cook. Yes, you heard that right, and I'm sure the Fire Department will be on stand by just in case they are needed! The menu will consist of soup beans, cornbread, salmon patties, and fried potatoes. I know that may not be the healthiest meal that I could cook, but it would make Grandma proud.

Saving Money on Baby Products

Having a baby is an exciting time in the lives of the parents. That excitement can often be overshadowed by the dent it makes in our wallets though. Saving just a small amount of money on some of the baby products that are used the most, can add up to some hefty savings over time.

Products like diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, baby food, and many other things that are needed for a baby can be expensive. Many of the brands offer coupons and promotional deals on their websites. Coupons for these products can also be found in newspapers or may be included in other advertisements like coupon books, or parenting magazines.

The parents should always keep a look out for coupons and deals for the products that they use on their babies. This gets you in the habit of bargain hunting, and that will help you rack up a lot of savings over the years.

Obviously deals like buy one get one free or half on will grab your attention, but saving thirty or forty cents can also be a great deal when it happens consistently. If you use a combination of coupons that save you two dollars a week on things that you have to buy anyway, in a year you have saved $104. That doesn't sound like much but after 5 years, you have amassed a savings of $520. It may seem small, but it adds up over time.

Becoming a parent should put you in automatic bargain hunting mode, but if it doesn't, don't fret. You can make it a habit by doing it on a consistent basis. Then before you know it, you will be clipping coupons without even thinking about it. This doesn't just apply to baby products, you can save money by using coupons for any of the everyday items that your family uses.

Choosing the Right Baby Stroller

Choosing a baby stroller sounds simple enough, right? Well there is actually more to it if you want to get a stroller that will fit in with the activities of your family. There are several things that you should look at before you make that final purchase.

Safety Features

Check the different brands of strollers to find out if there have been any recalls on their strollers. This can give you a heads up about their overall safety.

Make sure the stroller has a secure safety harness.

Make sure that all of the wheels touch the ground so that the stroller is not going to tip over easily. Also check to see if the wheels have safety locks on them. These keep the stroller from rolling when you aren't moving.

Check the stroller thoroughly for any sharp edges or spaces that are wide enough to where the baby could fall through them. Babies are constantly moving and exploring and this will continue while they are in the stroller.

Family Activities

Many of the modern baby strollers are made for specific activities. If you are a jogger, you can get a stroller that it made specifically for you to puc\sh as you jog. So consider what activities you will be doing while you have the baby in the stroller and purchase a stroller that is suited for those activities.

Number of Small Children

If you have more than one small child, then you should get a stroller that will accomodate more than one baby. I had twins, and let me tell you, the two seated stroller was a big asset when I had to go anywhere.

Budget

Baby strollers can be purchased at various prices. Choose the stroller that fits what you need and fits into your budget. Don't be afraid to shop around and find the best price.

If you take the time to research before you purchase a baby stroller, it will benefit you in the end. Saving you time, money and hassles down the road.

Fashion Designer Betsey Johnson Blows Me Away

I'm not normally into fashion all that much, but lately I have been looking at designs by some fashion designers. I have to admit that Betsey Johnson is my favorite by far. I'm a sweat pants and t-shirt kind of girl, but I still love her designs. The unique style that she brings to her fashion line is awesome. It takes me back to funner times in my life, when I was way more carefree than I am today.

She has pretty much any thing you would need available through her fashion line. Her line includes dresses, apparel, intimate apparel, handbags, shoes, jewelery, swimwear, and other accessories. So whether you are looking for a watch or a prom dress, you can just about bet that she will have a one-of-a-kind item that will fit your needs.

I don't consider myself to be much of a girly girl, but I love her dresses. The colors and the style remind me of the 80s, which was pretty much the funnest time in my life or ever, in my opinion. Looking at some of the dresses reminds me of how Madonna dresses in a few of her earlier videos. The fashion in the 80s was great because people got to be creative, and pretty much anything could be turned into a fashion statement during that time.

It's funny how as we get older it becomes harder to adapt to new styles and trends. Just as we get accustomed to a new trend, it suddenly changes. As teenagers we could just go with the flow, now we see sudden changes as an annoyance that we try to avoid. I guess that is why Betsey Johnson has caught my eye, because looking at many of her designs brings back the great memories of my childhood. It's nice to have those memories brought up every now and then.

Fashionably Punk Styles

Many teens and young adults are into the punk fashion style. These kids are in that independent and often rebellious stage where they want to show their creativity through the clothes that they wear. In some cases this is a fashion choice that is based on the fact that they know that their parents will HATE it!  Regardless of the reason for the choice to dress punk, this style continues to be nery popular.

Dressing punk gives you many options to use your creativity. You can mix and match (or not match if that's your choice) just about anything to create a punk style that is unique for you. The versatility allows you to add our own special touch to create a style of your own.

Trends in punk fashion are constantly changing, but there are many things that have stayed the same over the years. Band T-shirts, studded belts or jewelery, high top tennis shoes like Converse, and of course the punk hairstyles have remained standard in the punk fashion world for many years.

There are several notable designers that are stand-outs in the world of punk fashion. These include fashion designers Betsey Johnson, Vivienne Westwood, and Jean Paul Gaultier. These designers often use punk styles in their designer fashions. Many magazines and other media outlets spotlight punk fashion and hairstyles in their works.

So whether you want to mix leather and lace, or skulls and hearts, the punk style will give you the freedom to do just that without the fear of being judged by your peers. But don't expect everyone to understand your need for uniqueness and creativity. You can expect to get some weird looks from people who just don't get what you are trying to achieve in choosing to dress this way. But that's okay, do what makes you comfortable and let others think what they want.

Choosing the Jeans that Best Enhance your Body Type

How many times have you heard, "do these jeans make my butt look too big?" We all want jeans that make our booty look better, not worse. Everyone has a different shape and size, so luckily jeans also come in many different shapes and sizes. So choose that denim wisely ladies, so you don't have to ask the dreaded big butt question.

This is such a common question, that some jeans stores have installed cameras so that you can see yourself from every angle when you try on jeans. This way you can see for yourself how they look, and don't have to ask someone else their opinion, and then wonder if they told you the truth. All jeans are different and the sizes are different on each brand. Be sure to try the jeans on before you buy them. Make sure the fit is comfortable as well as looks good. This will save you from getting home and finding out that they aren't the jean for you.

Choose a style of jeans that is flattering to your specific body type. Just because your size 2 friend looks great in skinny jeans, doesn't mean that the same style will look flattering on your body type. If you are on the heavier side, a medium width, straight or slightly boot cut leg jean will probably be the place to start when shopping for jeans. If you find a pair that fit well and look great, gbe sure to grab more than one pair. Choose a few pair in different shades of denim.

Jeans are versatile and can often be worn to work or out on the town. You can wear them with tennis shoes, flats, or even heels. What you wear with them can make the jeans more business like, or straight up sexy! That is what makes jeans so great!

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Special Day

As a girl, I have spent most of my life daydreaming about my perfect wedding. I was married at an early age, and was in too much of a hurry to get married to really care what kind of wedding that I had at that point, even though I already had my dream wedding planned out in my head. Twenty years and a divorce later, I still want that dream wedding and my dream wedding dress.

I'm not all into the big frilly ballgown wedding dresses. I want a simple, but beautiful wedding dress. I am also not a skinny girl, so I will choose a dress that is more flattering to my body type, because we all want to look as beautiful as possible on our wedding day. Back when I was married the first time, there were not many choices available for plus size women. Now the options are pretty much endless no matter what size or body type that you have.

Wedding dresses these days are available for pretty much any style wedding that you want to have. You want to look like Cinderella and feel like a princess on your wedding day? You can find a dress that will totally fit your needs. Even if you decide to have a theme wedding, there are plenty of options available for theme wedding dresses.

The best advice that anyone can give you, is o take your time picking out the dress. Shop around and look at the different styles and prices that are available from different stores. Picking out your dress too soon will usually lead to finding a dress that you like a lot better within a few days of the purchase. So don't jump and buy anything too quick.

Your wedding day is a day that you will remember forever, so take the time to get everything as perfect as possible. Otherwise you will spend the rest of your life looking back and wishing that you had done things differently.

Bret Michaels Condition

Bret Michaels is one of my favorite rockers from the 80s. I loved Poison, and I have also watched him on Rock of Love and Celebrity Apprentice. As a writer, I admit that I want to make money, but I also enjoy writing about things that I love and that I am passionate about. Often these are things that have had an impact on my life in some way or another. If you knew me as a teenager, then you could attest to the fact that Bret Michaels was a big part of my life. As many teens do, I got a bit obsessive over several famous guys! This obsession led to my bedroom walls being wallpapered with posters of my top two faves, Bret Michaels and Kirk Cameron. So for those that want to stay updated about his condition, you can check out this link Bret Michaels Medical Updates. It will be updated as more information comes out on Bret Michaels condition.

Lady Gaga Beats Oprah in The 2010 Time 100

Lady Gaga has had a big influence on the music industry in recent years. She has a style that sets her apart from all the other musicians out there right now. From her outlandishly creative costumes, to her catchy tunes that you hear all over the radio, she has created her own unique style. This is part of what makes her so unforgettable. Once you see her perform in a video, on television, or in concert, it is a unique experience that you will remember.

Time magazine has just released there top 100 Most Influential People. This list is broken down into categories that include Leaders, Heroes, Artists, and Thinkers. Included in this list are names like President Barack Obama, Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, Ben Stiller, Phil Mickelson, Conan O'Brien, Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Warren, and Steve Jobs.

So where does Lady Gaga fall within this list? She is listed as the Most Influential Artist in the world today. Beating out Oprah Winfrey, Conan O'Brien, and Ashton Kutcher. This is a huge thing for a musician that is only 24 years old and who has only been in the limelight for a few years.

Fellow musician, Cyndi Lauper says, "An artist's job is to take a snapshot — be it through words or sound, lyrics or song — that explains what it's like to be alive at that time. Lady Gaga's art captures the period we're in right now." You can't turn on the radio, watch music videos, or go to a dance club without hearing something by Lady Gaga, and chances are that you will hear several of her songs.

Lady Gaga has already amassed many awards and achievements in her career as a musician, and I'm betting that this trend will continue for quite a while. She has also had her share of controversy and has with stood it. She is considered to be an icon in the gay community, and attributes most of her early success to her gay fans.

Lady Gaga has released two albums, "Fame" and "Fame Monster", which include her hit singles, "Poker Face", "Just Dance", "Paparazzi", and "Telephone" which also features Beyonce. All of which have been hits on the Billboard charts. Her popularity continues to grow among fans of all ages. It looks like she will be around for a while, so whether you love her or hate her, you better get used to seeing her.

Glee Mania has Taken the World by Storm

Glee is now in it's second season on Fox, and the fans are still following the show diligently. Glee fans call themselves "Gleeks", a combination of the words geek and glee. This comedy series about the Glee club has built up quite a following for a new series.

There have been three Glee albums released and they have each made there way to the top of the charts. The album, "Glee Season One: The Music Volume 1" made it to number four on the Billboard 200 in November, Volume 2 hit number three the next month, and the latest album released, Glee: The Power of Madonna debuted in the number one spot this week. The Madonna album has already sold over 98,000 copies, with seventy-five percent of those being purchased through internet retailers.

Most of us can remember what it was like to be in high school. Trying to find a position in the high school social scene that was filled with different cliques. These groups had stipulations of who could enter, and many of us never attained entry into the most popular groups. Not because we weren't worthy, but because our parents didn't have the right job, or we didn't have the right kind of clothes. This makes Glee a show that people can relate to easily. The show is also very funny. It has great music, and an amazing cast.

The second season of Glee began on April 13, 2010 with an estimated 13.7 million viewers. Many of these viewers are self-proclaimed "gleeks" that follow the show religiously. The fact that Glee follows the Fox hit reality show, American Idol, has probably helped the show pick up some extra viewers here and there as well. But the cult like following of the fans will help keep this show around for quite a while.

Glee has been accepting fan audition videos on their Myspace page. This was such a popular concept that they have reopened auditions for a  one day encore. The auditions reopened on April 28th and will close at 1:59am PT on April 29th. If you want to submit your audition video, there is still time if you hurry!

If you haven't watched the show yet, now is a great time to check it out. The first season was a short one, and season two has just begun so you aren't too far behind on what has gone on during the show. The show airs on Fox every Tuesday night at 9, after American Idol.

Downloading Free Music Legally

Downloading free music use to be as easy as going to Napster or another file sharing program. Now many of these programs charge a subscription fee or a fee per download. The RIAA has made information available on their website about piracy, and they offer tips for consumers on how to avoid pirated material and illegal downloads.

Many artists offer free music downloads on their official websites or on their Myspace Music pages. This is a great way to get the songs you are looking for by a specific artist for free. It also keeps you from getting in trouble for downloading music in an illegal manner.

If you know what artist or songs you are looking to download, you can search through Mp3 blogs and try to find them. An Mp3 blog is a place where a music fan post information about their favorite music and artists. They will often upload mp3 files of the music to share with people who follow their blog.

There are also torrent sites and peer to peer servers that allow file sharing for Mp3s and other files. I suggest that you use these with caution, many of them may e posting files that they downloaded through illegal sites. This is also a good way to end up with viruses on your computer. Many people share files for the purpose of infecting other peoples computer with spyware or other harmful viruses.

EZ-Tracks is a free music download site that has thousands of mp3s for you to download for free. This site is not a peer to peer site and according to their website it is one hundred percent legal. They say that have partnerships with the music labels for all the free music that is offered within their website. They also have ringtones and music videos available on there.

If you are looking for music videos, you can go to Youtube. They have videos for almost any song that you could think of, from golden oldies to new releases.

The best advice for downloading free music from online is to be cautious. Take the time to check out any site that allows free music downloads so that you are sure that what you are getting is legal. Websites will use any tactic that is necessary to get you to use their site, so take the time to thoroughly research them before you download anything.

Infomercials Create Lazy People!

Infomercials have taken over late night television in the past few years. No matter what it is that you want to do, there is a ground-breaking product that will make it easier. Many of the more popular items that are sold via infomercials are products to help you do something as simple as crack an egg. I thought that egg cracking was something that I had mastered over the years, but obviously I was wrong.

Are we all getting that lazy? I mean seriously, since when did it become so difficult to crack an egg that I need to buy this egg cracker to do it for me? We are always hearing about how we need to eat healthier, and then you turn on the television and see an ad for a giant cupcake pan. Well, now you definitely have to get one of those! Forget eating healthier.

We have all become spoiled with technology and new contraptions. Just because there is some magical product that will cut one step or two seconds of time off of an ordinary task, we think we have to have it. Millions of dollars are wasted on products that in all honesty are probably never even used after they are purchased. By the time I go to the cabinet and get the egg cracker out, I could have cracked three eggs with my own hands.

It has gotten so out of hand that there are now video montages devoted to the epic fails of people trying to do simple everyday tasks like chopping vegetables or covering up with a blanket. And of course, there is a great new product out there that can keep you from having to deal with these horrible problems.

As a society we need to take a look around and see that we are all too busy taking shortcuts. Most kids today are going to grow up relying on all of these products because they were never taught how to actually do things on their own. Even if you do cave in and purchase some of these products, take the time to teach your kids how to do things with their own two hands. Otherwise, they will grow up not knowing how to do anything without some kind of tool to assist them. God forbid the power goes out, they will be lost and have no clue how to take care of themselves.

Steps to Becoming a Physical Therapist

If you want to become a physical therapist it will take some time and effort on your part. Becoming a physical therapist will require you to complete several different steps in the process. But the time and effort will be worth it in the end, because you will be fully trained and qualified to start your career as a physical therapist.

The dirst step to becoming a physical therapist is to get a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university. This will get you started on the right track.

Next you will want to start work on your Master's or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. By 2020, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) estimates that a majority of practicing physical therapists will hold a doctoral degree. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2009 out of the 212 accredited programs in physical therapy, only 12 of those awarded master's degrees. The rest were doctorate degrees.

After completing your physical therapy degree, you will want to complete a residency. This gives you the chance to train in a specialized area if you want. A normal residency will last about a year.

You have to pass state and National Licensing exams in order to become a licensed physical therapist. Each state has different regulations regarding the test, so be sure to find out the regulations in your local area.

If you choose to become Board Certified, you will need to meet the requirements of the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). You must be licensed to practice and must have completed over 2,000 hours of practice in your specialty. 25 percent of those hours must have been within the last three years. The council within your specialty may expect you to have completed other requirements as well.

Duties of a Physical Therapist

A physical therapist treats patients of all ages that has some kind of limitation on what they can or can not do. The physical therapist will develop a plan based on the needs of the patient to help restore mobility and reduce pain. They care for patients in nursing homes, at hospitals, in outpatient care facilities, in schools, and within sports organizations.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is estimating that the need for physical therapists will grow around thirty percent from now until 2018. This means there should be plenty of employment opportunities available in this field in the coming years.

Advantages and Disadvantages to Substitute Teaching

Becoming a substitute teacher is not as difficult as you might think. There are often different requirements in each educational district, so check with your local school board to be sure that you know exactly what you need to do. The process can take some time, so be sure and get things started early, so that you don't miss out on any teaching opportunities.

Many areas require that you have a college degree, this degree does not have to be in education, it can be in any field. You may also be required to take a competency test, again this may not be the case in every school district.

Before you can be approved to substitute teach, you will likely need to agree to a thorough background check. The rise in sexual abuse cases that happen in and out of school have made it a necessity in trying to insure the safety of the children. If you have not been convicted of any crimes, then there should not be any reason to worry about this step in the process.

Adter you are approved to substitute teach in your district, you will need to fill out the forms for which schools you will be available for. This gives you the chance to choose grades and classes that you you have knowledge in, so that you feel comfortable teaching those classes.

Advantages of Substitute Teaching

Substitute teaching allows you to work when it is convenient for you. If you have other appointments or plans, you can always say that you are not available that day. Substitute teaching also gives you some experience towards teaching. This is very beneficial if you are planning to become a teacher or are looking into another educational career.

Disadvantages of Substitute Teaching

There may not be enough work at times. If you are looking for a steady pay check this may not be a great option for you. As a substitute teacher you have to deal with the kids. Subs are often not treated with the respect they deserve by the students. You will need to be tolerant and patient to get through your first few days as a substitute teacher. After the children get to know you and your teaching style, they will most likely calm down and the classroom experience will be nicer for everyone.

Substitute teaching can be rewarding. Not every student will touch you, but there are sure to be a few that make an impact during your time as a substitute.
